ADJUSTING TO

motherhood

In our society today we fixate so much on the baby and the birth that we simply forget about the mother and the journey thereafter. After the rigorous and demanding act of birth, the six weeks following are considered to be the most critical time in a woman's life. It is a time where you are physically and psychosocially vulnerable and require unconditional love, nourishment, rest, and care, in order to fully step into your new role.

With the emotional and physical support of Soul Inspired Wellness, you can feel connected rather than isolated, validated rather than judged and healed rather than wounded after giving birth and becoming a Mother.

The postpartum period is full of challenges and uncertainties as you are catapulted forward, your body continues to transform, your feelings tend to be all over the place, and your self of self begins to change and morph. This can make recovery and integration very challenging, often leading to postpartum depression. In fact, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the postpartum depression rate hovered around 25% and varied in severity. In other countries where the 42-day sacred window practice of care is standard, the postpartum depression rate was less than 2%. I believe more now than ever before it is crucial that we start to embody these traditional healing and nurturing practices if we want to make a difference in maternal mental health rates.

As a postpartum doula, my goal is to restore the health of the mother after her birthing journey and maintain a healthy state in the body, mind, and spirit so that she can care for her newborn the way mother nature intended her to -- nourished and rested.

With a background in Ayurveda [Ayur in Sanskrit means life and Veda in Sanskrit means the science of knowing], so I carry the philosophy that the complete health of the mother -- mind, body, and spirit -- determines the health and wellbeing of the baby. The first 40 days postpartum is a time of great healing and rejuvenation and requires life to slow down. According to Ayurvedic text, "the way a mother is cared for during the first 42 days postpartum will impact the next 42 years of her life". It makes sense as it is the most transformative event in your life on every level of your existence. It is also the most demanding time, with your baby needing to be fed and cared for around the clock.

By planning now and having the means to hire a postpartum doula makes it possible for you and your partner to focus solely on your baby's and the family's needs with confidence, patience, and ease. It is the role of an Ayurvedic Postpartum Doula to nurture and support you with a range of nourishing traditions including: (1) preparing nourishing meals that promote milk production and comfort as your intestines slowly begin to find new place inside your abdomen,

meet you where you are at
