CONNECTING TO

your body & your baby

Reiki is a healing art from Japan that uses a light therapeutic touch on or just above the body to help facilitate deep relaxation, promote balance and an optimal state of well-being.  The gentle nature of this bodywork is especially beneficial for expectant and new mothers because it helps prepare women for the physical, emotional and spiritual changes necessary for a “centered” pregnancy, labor and post-partum recovery experience.

Reiki nourishes, supports, and strengthens the bond between

Many pregnant women are juggling demands associated with careers, expectations from their families, changes in their relationships with their partners, and of course, in their bodies. These factors can exacerbate fatigue and mood swings.  Reiki therapy can help expectant mothers to reduce stress and remain more grounded emotionally.  A Reiki treatment is, first and foremost, time for women to reorient themselves and their bodies during a time when they may no longer feel like it belongs to them.  Reiki treatment, along with other supportive practices such as chiropractic, prenatal massage, and prenatal yoga, can have great benefits for a mother-to-be and her developing baby.

“The most important component of the system of Reiki at any level is one’s own daily personal practice, meditation, and self-healing. This is the foundation from which all healing experiences with the animals will grow.”

BENEFITS OF REIKI

 PRENATAL

During early pregnancy, it can reduce many common discomforts such as exhaustion and nausea.

Reiki can relieve issues such as lower back pain, tension, and insomnia. On a mental and emotional level, Reiki can ease anxieties and calm fears.

Relieved of some of the physical and emotional discomforts of pregnancy, the expectant mom will sleep more soundly, feeling positive and relaxed.

 BIRTH

Assisting a laboring mother with Reiki treatment can provide the space and support for her to experience a centered, empowered birth experience.

Reiki can also provide a non-invasive comfort measure, helping to relieve pain from contractions and reduce anxiety during labor.

It can be tremendously gratifying for the spouse or partner to be able to provide an additional source of loving and centered support, creating a deep shared connection between the couple.

 POSTPARTUM

Women recovering from surgery or birth trauma can benefit from this additional source of compassionate, palliative support.

The medications used to relieve post-surgical pain often have unpleasant side effects, and the discomfort from the incision can make it difficult for women to hold or breastfeed their babies.

Reiki treatment supports the physical healing process, enabling women to get back on their feet sooner.

The Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut conducted tests in a clinical setting during pregnancy involving the use of just the simplest form of Reiki.  These showed:

94%

reduced stress and anxiety during pregnancy

31%

reduced pain and eliminate epidural or other pharmacetical pain relief.

28%

reduced nausea and morning sickness

28%

quality of sleep was improved

TRY IT FOR YOURSELF

When you have decided to start your Reiki journey it is important that you choose a Reiki Master that is right for you. Therefore I offer you a complimentary 30-minute consultation to discuss my approach so you can decide whether Soul Inspired Wellness is a good fit for you.

How does it work?

Reiki is usually received by lying down on a massage treatment table, allowing a deep level of relaxation. However, Reiki can also be given whilst seated in a chair. The choice is yours; what is important is that you feel comfortable and relaxed. I have a special way of supporting your body with pillows, while comfortably lying on your side.

During a Reiki session, no movement is necessary and you do not remove your clothes. Soft relaxing music will be played, you just need to relax and enjoy the experience. It is a gentle, safe non-intrusive holistic treatment and can do no harm. Energy is realigned in the body clearing and strengthening.

A full body session will last approximately 45-minutes. During the session, you may feel warmth or cold either in and around your body or from my hands. You may feel an emotional release or you may even laugh. These are all natural reactions and you may experience all or none of them; everybody experiences Reiki differently. Since I am a certified transitional life coach, I sometimes I will ask you questions to help you dive deeper into releasing those negative thoughts, emotions, beliefs out of your energetic body.

A Reiki session shifts energy within the body and allows for self-healing to occur. After a session, you should drink a glass of water and continue to hydrate yourself regularly for the following few days as you may experience detoxification either physical, emotional or mental. This is part of the process of Reiki. It is important to nurture yourself and allow for the healing to take place. The symptoms may heighten before you start to feel better and at ease, this is common and expected as the Reiki initiates a cleansing process in the receiver.

Spouses, partners, doulas and other childbirth professionals trained in Reiki practice can be a valuable source of support for laboring women:

The birth partner has the very specific role during labor, delivery, and post-birth of giving the mother and the baby Reiki, creating that Reiki space of peaceful, deep relaxation that assists the mother in flowing with her body and the baby throughout labor.

Establish a Self-Practice

While Reiki is given to a pregnant woman by practitioners and Reiki masters, pregnant women can be attuned by their masters to be able to use it on themselves. A self-session of Reiki, especially during pregnancy, is smaller than the one given generally. It must last not more than 30-40 minutes as opposed to the regular 50-60 minutes. Also, the trimester determines the position – lying down, seated or lying on the side. The right position of the palm of your hands will help you experience the effects better.

This is a modified version of our Reiki Practitioner (level 1) training workshop, but with a few bonus points on prenatal positioning, hand positions, etc.

Individual: $250

Couple: $450
